The University of Yaounde I (UYI) celebrates its heroes from X and Paris-Saclay

On Thursday, 10 July 2025, the Rector of UYI, Prof. Remy Magloire Etoua, presided over a ceremony to congratulate and encourage students who were successful at the 2025 competitive entrance examination into the École Polytechnique de Paris, as well as IDEX Paris-Saclay scholarship recipients.

The event took place at ENSPY's 200-seat amphitheatre, attended by several senior UYI officials and the families of the laureates who came to celebrate this exceptional achievement.

A total of 12 UYI students were admitted to École Polytechnique de Paris, out of 17 shortlisted from across Cameroon. Other students who honoured UYI and the country during the technological innovation competition in China were also recognized. The Rector handed to each of them a certificate of congratulations and encouragement.

In his welcome address, the Director of ENSPY, Prof. Raoul-Domingo Ayissi, "emphasised how symbolic and significant such an event was", lauding the "major contribution of the former Director of ENSPY, now Rector, Prof. Rémy Magloire Etoua, to the development of the institution".

Speaking in turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Jean Calvin Owona Owona, heartily congratulated the day's laureates. He emphasised the value of "excellence" which, in his view, must remain the foundation of all academic ambition.

In his speech, the Rector, Prof. Rémy Magloire Etoua, "expressed pride and congratulations to the laureates, as well as to the entire teaching and supervisory staff of the University of Yaounde I, for such outstanding work". He also invited officials of the institution to intensify communication efforts so as to better promote the talents of UYI students and increase student participation in academic honours, both nationally and internationally.

He concluded with the following solemn wish: "Dear laureates, as you prepare to enter into a new phase of your academic pursuit at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, I urge you to be worthy ambassadors of Cameroonian excellence.”
