Cultural facilities
MAJESTIC Yaounde University is a cinema located on the University of Yaounde I (UYI) campus. The MAJESTIC Cinema complex was officially opened at the UYI on 27 February 2026 in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, marking the return of cinema to the campus. The new entertainment and cultural venue, run by MAJESTIC One, offers film screenings, games and gaming areas, gala evenings and events for students and the general public.
By this, the UYI aims is to develop a film culture and the film industry in Central Africa, particularly among young people. The project is part of modernization of the university’s cultural facilities and enhances the range of leisure activities available at the “mother of universities”.
The cinema, formerly the Canal Olympia complex, was transferred to the UYI by the Bolloré Group in December 2025.
