Surrounding environment of the UYI

The University of Yaoundé I (UYI) is located in the city of Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, in the Ngoa-Ekélé neighborhood. It is a highly secure neighborhood.
 
Ngoa-Ekélé is a neighborhood in the Yaoundé III district. It borders the neighborhoods of Olezoa to the south, Mvolyé to the west, and Melen to the north. To the east, it is separated from the Administrative Center by the Valley of Death, also known as Nkol Nguet. The neighborhood is built on a ridge that rises to 793 meters; this is the Atemengue Plateau. The population of Ngoa-Ekélé is predominantly student-based. With students coming from all ten regions of Cameroon, the neighborhood’s population is cosmopolitan. Ngoa-Ekélé is at once a student, political, and military neighborhood.

The headquarters of Cameroon’s National Assembly is located in Ngoa-Ekélé. The Monument to the Reunification of Cameroon is also located there.
