In the field of research, the University of Yaoundé I (UYI) has established a policy centered on doctoral schools and multifaceted institutional support for research. This policy has resulted in a substantial body of scientific output.
Doctoral Schools are organizational and structural frameworks for research established at UYI to meet the requirements of the Bachelor’s-Master’s-Doctorate (LMD) system and to accommodate the opening of new departments within the institution. There are currently four (04) Doctoral Schools at UYI:
- Arts, Languages, and Cultures
- Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education
- Science, Technology, and Earth Sciences
- Life Sciences, Health, and Environment
These doctoral schools are organized into Research and Doctoral Training Units (UFDs), the number of which varies from one school to another.
These are the following UFDs:
For the Doctoral School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures:
- Department of Languages and Literature
- Department of Arts, Cultures, and Civilizations.
For the Doctoral School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education:
- Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Department of Education Sciences and Educational Engineering.
For the Doctoral School of Science, Technology, and Geosciences (CSTG):
- Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, and Applications
- Department of Engineering Sciences and Applications
- Department of Physics and Applications
- Department of Chemistry and Applications
- Department of Geosciences and Applications.
For the Doctoral School of Life Sciences, Health, and Environment:
- Department of Health and Environment
- Department of Life Sciences
The Doctoral School is also an independent entity within the Faculty. While it is affiliated with one or more institutions, it operates autonomously, even though its academic staff are drawn from those institutions. The director of the Doctoral School represents the School before the Rector.
