Higher Teachers Training College (ENS)

Ens

ENS is a higher education institution specializing in education. It comprises 14 teaching departments. It awards national diplomas (DIPES 1, DIPES 2, DIP CO and DIPEN). In addition to various administrative services, it houses a hall of residence, a restaurant and sports facilities. To ensure the best possible research environment, the campus is covered by free Wi-Fi for students and staff.

Thanks to its selective admissions process, it is one of the best training schools in Cameroon. This is reflected in the employment of ENS graduates across all the country’s development sectors.

ENS offers international students the opportunity to undertake part or all of their university studies therein. It also hosts many visiting lecturers cum researchers during the colloquiums and other academic events held there.

Notre histoire

Established by Decree No. 61/186 of 3 September 1961, ENS is Cameroon’s first institution of higher learning. It was part of the Federal University of Cameroon by virtue of Decree No. 62/df/372 of 8 October 1962, with an initial duty to train a sufficient number of general secondary education teachers within a short timeframe. This initial mission was soon followed by a second one, given the urgent needs of the time: the training of primary school inspectors.
To meet the needs of the entire country, Order No. 49/B1/91/MEJEC/DES of 20 September 1969 established the ENS Bambili Annex, to train first-cycle secondary education teachers in the English-speaking regions. Decree No. 88/328 of 28 September 1988 assigned new responsibilities thereto.
When it was first established, it housed just a few departments which, fortunately, have grown in number over time. ENS currently comprises 14 departments.
