The Majorettes Club

The University of Yaoundé I (UYI) Majorettes Club is an iconic cultural and athletic group that has been active for at least 25 years. Composed of female students, it represents the institution at official events, such as the May 20 parade and the International Women’s Rights Day parade, and aims to foster the personal development of young women through artistic and athletic activities as well as stage performances.

  • Activities and Events: The club organizes cultural activities, sports days, and parades, along with projects designed to promote the group, such as a “Majorette Week.”
  • Support and Equipment: In 2011, the club celebrated its 25th anniversary, marked by a donation of 60 formal costumes and makeup supplies from its partners.
  • Institutional role: The club plays a role in campus life and the institution’s image, often with the support of the university administration.
  • Background: Efforts have been made in the past to revive the club's marching band.
