Studies

Organization of studies at UYI

To ensure the comparability of courses and compliance with the Bachelor’s- Master’s-Doctorate (BMD) system, courses at the University of Yaounde I are organized into 3 (three) cycles, with the exception of Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences (FMBS):
  • the Bachelor’s degree programme, which lasts 6 (six) semesters, leads to a Bachelor’s degree;
  • the Master’s programme, lasting 4 (four) semesters and divided into First Year and Second Year, leads to a Master’s degree;
  • the PhD programme, which also lasts 6 (six) semesters, leads to a PhD degree;
It should be noted that all these programmes have a professional and an academic pathway. Thus, each qualification may be either professional or academic, as appropriate
Institutions
For the other institutions, whose qualifications are regarded as professional
  • the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences (FMBS) awards a Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.), following 14 (fourteen) semesters of theoretical and practical training in a hospital setting or in pharmacies
  • the Higher Teachers Training College (ENS) awards a DIPES I qualification (national teacher training diploma) for the first cycle, lasting 6 (six) semesters, and a DIPES II qualification for the second cycle, lasting 4 (four) semesters
  • the National Advanced Polytechnic School (ENSPY), awards the Design Engineering certificate after 5 (five) years or 10 (ten) semesters of study
  • the University Institute of Wood Technology (IUT-Bois) awards a University Technical Diploma (DUT) following 4 (four) semesters of study
It should be noted that admission to Master’s and PhD programmes is subject to selection by a panel chaired by the Rector
