Student participation is encouraged at the University of Yaoundé I (UYI). Each year, UYI students are called upon to elect representatives to lead the various student organizations within the faculties, grandes écoles, and institutes.
The main responsibilities of student representatives:
- to defend and promote students’ interests, particularly on all matters related to teaching, pedagogy, and the administration of the UYI;
- to encourage students’ active participation so that they can fully fulfill their role as active, responsible, and critical citizens within society and the UYI;
- ensure the flow of information between academic and university authorities and students;
- participate in the training of student representatives to ensure continuity in student representation;
- inform students about their rights, campus life, and the educational opportunities available to them.
