Presentation of Wishes

2026 New Year wishes: UYI celebrates its Rector in an intense moment

On Friday, 6 February 2026, the Amphi 700 lecture hall of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences was transformed into a temple of recognition. The University of Yaounde I community gathered there for the traditional ceremony to present New Year wishes to their Rector, Professor Remy Magloire Etoua, marking the beginning of a year dedicated to cohesion and ambition.
A deeply moving moment
The first highlight was devoted to merit. Labour medals of honour and letters of congratulations were handed to retiring staff as a reminder that the University of Yaounde I is a family that recognizes its architects. This deeply moving moment highlighted the intergenerational ties that form the foundation of our institution.
Commander
In a masterful retrospective, the Secretary-General, Professor Sale, née Rosine Paki Matio, gave a vivid description of a fascinating university. Between academic excellence, sporting supremacy at CHAZU and artistic influence at UNIFAC, UYI reaffirms its leadership. She also commended the Rector's aura, elevated to the prestigious rank of Commander of the National Order of Valour, a symbol of his dedication to the State.
Tribute to the Architect and Uniting Force
One of the most solemn moments was the presentation of a special gift from the university community to the Boss of UYI in the form of two exceptional pieces of artwork.

  •  The ebony and bronze vase, held aloft by six men and women, illustrates the community's unwavering solidarity around its leader and chief architect.
  •  The bronze tambourine player, a majestic figure on his ebony pedestal, embodies the Uniting Force. It is a stirring call to a Sacred Union, a call to rally around the grandeur of the “Mother of Universities”.
Rector’s Vision: “An Auditorium of Miracles”
Speaking with his characteristic inspiration, the Rector set the course for 2026:

  •  “Together, we must turn the University of Yaounde I into an auditorium of miracles. An auditorium of miracles not of magic, but of knowledge, innovation and creativity. A place where every voice, every idea, every discovery resonates and contributes to building the future of our nation.”
  • He concluded by recalling the requirements of every moment, quoting John Dewey: "The best preparation for the future is a well-spent today.” "It is in this spirit that we must approach every lesson taught, every meeting held, every book opened, every examination organized and every partnership established.”
Journeying Towards Excellence
The ceremony ended with the traditional handshake, a show of respect in which lecturers, administrators and students joined forces with their Rector to make 2026 a year of total success.
