National symposium on matching higher education with professional realities

The University of Yaounde I hosted the National Symposium on Competency-Based Approach (CBA) and Professionalization of Training, from 7 to 9 July 2025.

The event was organized as part of the FormPro237 project, designed and funded by the French Embassy and implemented by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). It brought together more than a hundred participants from the academic, institutional and socio-economic worlds.

The purpose of the symposium was to boost the CBA implementation in Cameroon’s higher education. Deliberations focused on four main areas, namely the development of skills guides, change management, the creation of professional learning settings and the assessment of learning.

The opening ceremony was held on 7 July, chaired by Prof. Rémy Magloire Dieudonné Etoua, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Yaounde I, sitting in for the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education. Also in attendance were the representative of the French Ambassador, Prof. Stéphanie Mailles Viard, and the Director of ENS, Prof. Patricia Bissa Enama.
The symposium is part of a national drive to match university training with job market requirements and Cameroon's ambitions to professionalize training.
